3 Questions to Ask to Keep Your Workplace Safe
Every workplace holds a unique set of safety risks. Risks can range from something simple like failing to maintain correct posture to washing windows from a tree. But, regardless of the act, risks are present.
As a construction management company, we’re constantly managing the risks we encounter daily by regularly asking ourselves three questions:
1. What safety exposures will we need to account for on this project?
The most effective way to mitigate future failures is to identify the potential risks before on-site. Having an awareness of building hazards, dangerous chemicals, and heavy machinery on-site will allow your team to create an adequate safety plan in place. In addition, having quick access to the emergency personnel, evacuation plans, and safety manuals will ensure that any potential crisis is handled smoothly. It’s much better to be overprepared than not prepared at all!
2. How are we going to train our workers?
When most people think of training, they immediately think of new hires. However, ALL workers, regardless of age or experience, need to be updated on safety training. It will never hurt to overtrain an employee, and proper education on equipment handling and job site rules can help prevent hefty costs down the line.
3. Are there any safety protocols that need to be re-evaluated?
It’s easy to view employee training and safety plans as boxes to be checked. However, by failing to update training material and evaluate the effectiveness of safety protocols, you’re putting yourself behind. Maintaining safety protocols is a continual process. By analyzing and adjusting protocols throughout your project, you’re setting your employees and workplace up for long-term success.
